Injury prevention:

  • Use the power grip (full hand grip) instead of using a pinch

  • Use the force of the upper arm instead of isolated wrist movements

  • Work with the wrist in a neutral position

  • Purchase work tools/writing tools with enlarged grip size or add padding to current tools

  • Alternate hands during activities if possible

  • Minimize repetition and rest arm occasionally

  • Use a light grip on tools, pens and the mouse

How hand therapy can help:

  • Symptom management techniques to reduce discomfort

  • Manual therapies to facilitate the healing process

  • Orthotics to provide support and prevent symptom aggravation

  • Education on body awareness, detecting body cues, and proper posture/positioning

  • Recommendations for ergonomic equipment
