We want to inform you of changes that Hand Rehab Associates is making to their insurance contracts. As of July 1st, 2019, we will no longer be participating providers with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
We have been contracted providers for both Blue Cross and Blue Shield since 2002. In 2010, Blue Cross decided to reduce what they pay for contracted providers by approximately 40%. The reduced rates of Blue Cross and Blue Shield were financially difficult at the time and have only become more so. This is now 9 years later, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield are still unwilling to negotiate contracted rates for therapy. With the increase in both staff and facility costs, we simply cannot stay participating providers.
We understand that when you come to us for hand therapy, you expect to receive the highest quality of care we can offer; having a contract with Blue Cross/Blue Shield will not allow us to do so. The time we can spend with patients at the rates the insurance companies reimburse us, does not reflect the quality of care we strive to provide. Our goal is the ability to provide care for each patient as they need, not as the insurance companies dictate.
We will continue to accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance on an out-of-network basis which can slightly increase the cost of hand therapy for you, but this increase will allow for the time and care each patient deserves and that you have come to expect from our providers.
Do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We are happy to work with you so that you may complete your care with us. Thank you.
